Back2school Cross race

The St. Olaf and Carleton cycling clubs are putting on for the second year in a row, the Back2school cross race on Oct. 28, 2007. All information for the race can be found here. Last year was great success and we hope this year will go even better.
It is a great race and even if you don't race cross you should come on down and cheer on people running up Thorson hill!


In other news, the jerseys have been ordered and should be here by the first week of December.

As Homecoming is coming up this next weekend, I have decided to hold the order until after that. We should be able to sell some things there. So Monday the 1st of October will be the day that I send in the order. Then we should get the goods about 6 weeks after that.

Jersey time

It is time to start thinking about Olaf cycling gear. After last years disaster trying to get it before the racing season (we got the new gear right before Nationals), I am going to do the order shortly upon arrival back to the hill. The only thing that we will have to wait on is word from sponsors. We simply cannot do without them. So the exact design is yet to be decided. However, they will be very similar to last years. A small change will be done with the shorts, the back panel, which is currently white, will be changed to black. This will allow the short to be worn in the rain without the fear of them becoming transparent...
Pricing this year will be a bit different. For members of the actual team and club (basically students) the jerseys will cost whatever we have to pay for them. For alum and parents we are asking for a bit extra to cover shipping and help the team out just a little. And hey $60 for a jersey is a steal, most shops charge at least $70 for a quality jersey!

Please let everyone you know about the gear. I don't want to turn people away like I had to last year after the gear was ordered.

I want to try and get the order in early enough so that gear arrives before Christmas. It makes great gifts. So I am going to set a tentative order date of Friday Sept.21. I need all money at that point as well.

Sponsor seach

The sponsor search has begun for the 2008 season. We are trying to find sponsors who have a local connection. Either an alum has something to do with the company, or it is a local company in the Northfield area. Of course an exception can be made, but in general we would like to advertise something with a connection!
The larger the sponsorship, the large the logo of that particular company is on the jersey. The jersey is a great place to advertise. Last year we sold about 60 jerseys to people all over the country. The jerseys are shown off, ridden in, raced with, basically they become moving billboards. However, a jersey will last for many years, thus provide many years of advertising without any further investment. It simply cannot be beat. Not only is the extra advertising good for the company, but also great for public relations. Giving back to the community is always looked highly upon!


We are also looking for a sponsorship for the Oct. 28 cyclo-cross race on campus. Racers from all over MN, come down to campus and ride laps near the football field. Last year was the first time, and we had 180 racers, one of the bigger turnouts in all of MN for this kind of race. Another great way to get your companies name out.
